Rising Sun Ranch Inc.
We are an animal sanctuary located near Abilene, Texas.
Our Animals
Meet our horses. They come from different walks of life. Some are fancy purebred horses, others are not. Yet, it did not matter in the end. Each one of them ended up in dire need of help after being put into terrible situations by their owners. However - now -  they have left their pasts behind living life to the fullest and enjoying every day at the Rising Sun Ranch sanctuary.
pic coming soon Max
Breed: Oldenburg
Born: 1990 in Canada

Max was purchased by us in February of 2011 from someone who rescued him and was planning to give him a forever-home. Sadly the financial situation of the farm changed and Max was about to loose his home again. Max was once a high level dressage competition horse. He is now supported by our partner organization Gut Aiderbichl.

What's Max up to these days?
Max has healed from his hoof issue and is in outstanding health. He enjoys life especially around lunch time when he gets to come into the barn to munch on some grain and "rearrange" the hay storage area. This guy picks up 109 pound square bales by his teeth!
pic coming soon Marcus
Breed: Warmblood
Born: 2003 (approx)

Beautiful Marcus was once standing in a feedlot waiting for slaughter. His beauty saved his life but didn't give him the home he needed and he ended up in the wrong hands again. Through some twists of faith he made it to the same farm in Abilene as "Max". When the farm could no longer care for Marcus and Max, we offered both of them a new home at Rising Sun Ranch. Marcus is now also supported by our partner organization Gut Aiderbichl..

What's Marcus up to these days?
Marcus is doing well and got over his cough. He has a brand new polar bear warm winter blanket coming in the mail any day. So, let the cold fronts roll on in. It wont bother Marcus.
  Charlie Boy (nickname: Sir Charles)
Breed: Tennessee Walker
Born: 1989 (approx.)

In 2008 our dear Charlie was found deadly ill at a horse trader's ranch where he was refused medical care. He was purchased and then hauled to a hospital where his life was saved. This savvy boy has wisdom and much to give to everyone who comes in contact with him. Charlie is owned by our partner organization "Gut Aiderbichl".

What's Charlie up to these days?
Charlie is unbelievable! He is blowing and going, playing, running, bucking, and rearing - all in the name of fun. Seeing his wonderful energy level it is hard to believe he had cancer and some other problems. Our Charlie is on a roll.

   Aby
Breed: Mustang
Born: 2003

Aby came to us in April of 2009. She started out as a wild mustang in northern California where she was captured by the government in 2008. We bought her at a government auction where nobody else wanted her due to her age and a crippled leg. She was in sad condition. We just had to help her. Today Aby is continuously improving her trust level in humans and is owned by our partner organization "Gut Aiderbichl".

What's Aby up to these days?
She will tell you all about it in her own blog!

  Little Sunshine (nickname: Sunny)
Breed: Mustang
Born: 2007

Little Sunshine was captured somewhere in Nevada as a yearling. Somehow, she ended up at the same auction in Texas as her friend Aby. Since Little Sunshine and Aby stuck together in their fear, we decided to take them both. This girl is excited about the fun interaction with humans has to offer. She loves to learn new things every day. Little Sunshine is now also owned by "Gut Aiderbichl".

What's Sunny up to these days?
Sunny LOVES the cold - and you wont guess why! She is so thrilled to get a blanket put on she can barely contain herself. When her blanket is on she even tries to get involved into blanketing the other horses. It is so hard to believe she is a wild horse.

Molly
Breed: Belgian
Born: 2005

Molly arrived October 10 of 2009. We found her advertised on the internet for next to nothing. As a completely untrained and health wise very neglected horse, we thought she won't even have a chance to find a good home. Long story short, this skinny but sweet girl is now here heading into a bright and exciting future. Molly is also owned by "Gut Aiderbichl".

What's Ms. Molly up to these days?
Molly is doing great as well. She tells us she doesn't get enough attention though. She and her draft horse friend "Trish" have moved into the newly furnished "draft horse castle" inside the barn for overnight accomodations and its working out well.

Shabah
Breed: Egyptian Arabian
Born: 2000

Shabah came to us in 2008 through a donation by a young lady who saved his life after finding him abandoned and in bad condition at a boarding facility. Someone had left him behind like a piece of trash and later actually tried to hinder the rescue effort. Today our little rascal Shabah is much loved. He is in excellent health and great spirits. Never a dull moment with this boy!

What's Shabah up to these days?
Shabah is happy and healthy. He shares an overnight shelter with Shylo and Little Sunshine. It's a cozy place with plenty of overnight munching on excellent hay.

Shylo (nickname: The Hayman)
Breed: Arabian
Born: 1996 (approx.)

Shylo was abandoned twice! Prior to his final rescue his experience with humans must have been horrific. He still has the scars to proof it. Shylo is a gorgeous and extremely affectionate horse. Due to his past, his self confidence is still very frail at times. However, through specific training, we are providing him with plenty of opportunity to heal. So far he already improved greatly in managing his own fears which in turn is leading to more and more life quality for Shylo.

What's "the hayman" up to these days?
The playful hayman is in good spirits these days. Although he scared us the other night when he didn't feel good. However, the problem cleared up quickly and he is his healthy old self again.
